What is microchipping and how does it work?
Microchipping is a safe and permanent way to identify your pet. A tiny chip, about the size of a grain of rice, is inserted under your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. Each chip has a unique identification number which is registered with your contact details on a recognised UK pet database. If your pet ever goes missing, vets, animal charities, and local authorities can scan the chip to reunite you quickly.
Is microchipping safe for my pet?
Yes, microchipping is very safe. The procedure is quick and causes minimal discomfort. Most pets barely notice it, and our trained team ensures the process is calm and stress-free. It is far less invasive than many routine veterinary procedures.
Do I still need a collar and tag if my pet is microchipped?
Yes, collars and tags are still important. A collar with your contact information allows anyone who finds your pet to get in touch with you immediately, while microchipping provides permanent identification that cannot be removed. Using both together gives the best chance of being reunited with your pet.
How do I register my pet’s microchip in the UK?
Once the chip is inserted, we register your pet’s details with a recognised UK pet database such as Petlog or the Animal Microchip Database. It is essential to keep your details up to date, especially if you move house or change phone numbers, so you can always be contacted if your pet is found.
Will microchipping hurt my pet?
Most pets feel very little during the procedure, similar to a quick vaccination. The process takes just a few seconds, and we monitor your pet to ensure they are calm and comfortable throughout. Some pets may experience slight tenderness at the injection site for a short time, but this usually passes quickly.

In England, it is a legal requirement for all dogs to be microchipped. It is highly recommended for cats and other pets too, as it is one of the most reliable ways to ensure they can be returned to you if they go missing.
